The Times Herald-Record carried the following statement on August 22nd.

Middletown and New Jersey Railroad is getting $1.2 million in federal funding to install positive train control     technology, according to a news release issued Tuesday from U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.

The equipment will monitor train speeds and should prevent collisions and derailments by controlling train movements through a system of integrated command, control, communications and information technologies, according to the release. Money for the installation comes from the federal Department of Transportation’s Consolidated Rail

Infrastructure and Safety Improvements grant program. “Positive train control is a life-saving technology, and this federal funding for the Middletown and New Jersey Railroad will help prevent accidents and keep surrounding communities safe as trains pass through Orange County,” Gillibrand said in the release.

Mike Joyce visited Campbell Hall on October 8th and observed an NS light power move of four units, 2 NS and 2 BNSF GE’s, arrive. They assembled their train with the help of M&NJ 2175 which added 30 BNSF covered hoppers to the rear of their train. The four units then departed for Croxton with a 61-car train. We wonder what brought 30 BNSF “CHOP’s” to Campbell Hall.
